We are thrilled to learn that the SAS Royal Hotel, today the Radisson Royal Collection Hotel, has now been listed and will thus be preserved as a part of Denmark’s cultural heritage.
The building was designed by Arne Jacobsen and completed in 1960 as a hotel and airport terminal for the airline SAS. Today, it is regarded as one of Arne Jacobsen’s principal works. The building’s precise, minimalist architecture and the carefully balanced total design of the hotel interior constitute the ultimate expression of Arne Jacobsen’s modern aesthetic.
As descendants of Arne Jacobsen and managers of his design legacy, we thank the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces, the Ministry of Culture and the countless leading voices from the world of architecture who contributed in the process to preserve this iconic landmark. A special thanks to MIchael Sheridan, author of the book Room 606 about the SAS building and Arne Jacobsen’s ouvre for his support and work for the cause.
