For decades, Arne Jacobsen’s lamp designs have been synonymous with timeless elegance and functionality. Jacobsen, who began his career as an architect, left a significant impact on both Danish and international design history through his many iconic product designs. His design approach was characterized by an exceptional grasp of details and a profound understanding of the interplay of materials and shapes. This is especially evident in his lamps, which continue to adorn homes, offices and public settings the world over. One of Jacobsen’s best-known luminaires is the AJ lamp, which was designed in 1960 as part of the interior for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The AJ lamp is a masterpiece of simplicity and functionality. With its characteristic sloping shade and slender geometric shape, it has become a trend setter of modern lighting design. The AJ lamp, which is now produced by Louis Poulsen, is one of several designs by Jacobsen that appears in First House Of Light. The publication of the book marks the 150th anniversary of Louis Poulsen.
First House Of Light was launched during 3daysofdesign 2024 and will be available in shops in July.
