Arne Jacobsen’s cooperation with Stelton began in 1965, when CEO Peter Holmblad asked him to design a coffee and tea set in stainless steel, Stelton’s signature material. Ever a busy man, Arne Jacobsen was difficult to convince, until Holmblad, who is the son of Jacobsen’s wife, Jonna Jacobsen, showed him some of his own drawings over dinner. Arne Jacobsen found the attempts so inept that he decided he had to step in.

Cylinda Line was launched in 1967 as a beautiful, modern and functional design series for ordinary people and an alternative to traditional silverware. The series was developed with industrial manufacturing in mind, initially from standard steel tubes that were cut into size and fitted with a bottom. Although this method ultimately proved too costly, the series retained the characteristic geometric shape of the standard tube – the shape that made Cylinda Line an enduring international design icon.
