Geelsvej 10 listed

A modern masterpiece, now listed.

Geelsvej 10 in Holte was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1954 as a state-supported housing project a so-called statslånshus — where strict government regulations and limited budgets shaped the scale, layout and material choices of the home. Despite these constraints, Jacobsen transformed necessity into architecture of remarkable quality and character.

The owner, Henning Simony, who had worked with Jacobsen at Novo Nordisk, later recalled how the collaboration on Geelsvej began:
“When he had seen the land, he said: ‘Don’t deprive me of the chance to build on this site.’”

The distinctive asymmetrical roofline, the striking chimney and the house’s dramatic relationship with the surrounding landscape make it a remarkable example of Danish post-war architecture.

The house stands as proof that great architecture can emerge within strict limitations and as a testament to Arne Jacobsen’s unique ability to unite function, form and social vision.

Today, Geelsvej 10 has officially been listed, preserving it for future generations as an important part of our shared architectural heritage.
