Georg Jensen A/S has traditionally been known for its exclusive silverware. The company was founded by silversmith and sculptor Georg Jensen in 1904 and has since produced both jewellery and utilitarian objects created by Danish artists and designers.
Today, among a wide range of other products, Georg Jensen A/S also produces Arne Jacobsen’s avant-garde stainless-steel cutlery from 1957. Arne Jacobsen developed the steel cutlery in the 1950s as a modern alternative to traditional silver cutlery. In the 1950s, Arne Jacobsen had royal court jeweller A. Michelsen produce the cutlery. However, since A. Michelsen’s merger with Georg Jensen A/S under the umbrella brand of Royal Copenhagen, production has been handled by Georg Jensen A/S.
