Carl Hansen & Søn, founded in 1908, is a family-owned furniture company with its head office and production facilities on the Danish island of Funen (Fyn). The firm’s collaboration with Arne Jacobsen Design I/S began in 2017 with the launch of AJ Society. In 2011, Carl Hansen & Søn took over the old Copenhagen-based cabinetmaking firm Rud. Rasmussen, and moved its large archive to the city of Odense on Funen. Over the years, Rud. Rasmussen produced numerous furniture designs for Danish architects and well-heeled private clients, including a long-standing collaboration with architect Kaare Klint, who was Arne Jacobsen’s teacher at the School of Architecture. Arne Jacobsen also worked with Rud. Rasmussen, especially on his early wooden furniture, which he designed in the Kaare Klint tradition with its emphasis on quality craftsmanship and cabinetmaking traditions. In 1952, he designed the table for the American Scandinavian Foundation, which has now been put into production by Carl Hansen & Søn.
